C.A.K.E. Club Leaves Major Impact

From handing out stickers to showing inspiring videos, C.A.K.E club left a major impact on the dTHS community last week. Since it was national stand up to bullying week, C.A.K.E. wanted to spread awareness of this occasion by hanging up banners with a different anti bullying message in the lobby each day. “Our club believes that it is important to spread awareness for subjects like these so we can bear witness and prevent injustices, like bullying, from occurring in the future. In order to prove that bullying occurs in our daily lives, we created a poll to determine how many of the dTHS students and faculty have been a bully in their lives.” Alarming numbers of people responded to these questions by standing up and admitting that they either have been bullied or have been the bully in the past. Thanks to the dTHS community and C.A.K.E club, we have taken responsibility for our faults and now have the ability to move forward and prevent bullying from occurring in the future. We have the power to help make the world a better place by being A+ human beings to everyone and standing up for what is right.
Dr. Sacks sent out an email to thank those who contributed to this meaningful week, including:
- Francisco and his staff for ensuring the great set up.
- Elisha Schaefer for, on short notice, commanding the tech booth in ensuring such seamless transitions with screen, lighting, et al.
- Sophie Elkins, for powerful rendition of “Listen” (by Henry Krieger, Scott Cutler, Anne Preven, and Beyonce Knowles from the film version of Dreamgirls)–You got all of us to think about listening better to the cries around us.
- Diane Feldman, for the accompanying on “Listen” helping to bring out the best in the song’s message.
- Aviv Goldshide and Brooke Maimin for their startling rendition of “Tears in Heaven” (by Eric Clapton and Will Jennings from the film Rush), giving voice.
- Jared Stein for his help in having Aviv and Brooke’s participation happen.
- StuCo, led by Ms. Boehm, for thinking deeply about how we can begin to respond and for seeing their ideas through to fruition so that we can move from “tears” and “listening” to action.
- Etai Bernstein, Walker Reinfeld, and Lindsay Workman for sharing these projects with us.
- Rabbi Lev for advice on the response to the events.
- Dr. Tarle, who was, of course, not here but whose spirit, passion, and wisdom helped make this presentation what it was.
- All of you, for caring.
