MLB Top 10 Power Rankings Compared

MLB–Shaun’s Top 10

1. Rays

The Rays started the season off as hot as any MLB team ever, and the Rays have been amazing at every facet of the game. They still are atop the MLB at 31-11 and have continued their dominance over every team, and I do not see them stopping. Led by outfielder Randy Arozarena and starting pitcher Shane McClanahan, they have been nearly unstoppable.

2. Braves

The Braves could be considered the overall most talented team in baseball. With hitters like Ronald Acuna Jr., Sean Murphy, Matt Olson, and Austin Riley, their offense is extremely dangerous. This talent does not end with their position players because they also have stud starting pitchers like Spencer Strider, Max Fried, and Charlie Morton.

3. Dodgers

Last year the Dodger set the record for the most wins in franchise history and NL history, but after the loss of star Trea Turner and an injury to projected starting shortstop Gavin Lux, the season started slow. But over their last 10 games they have won eight including a five game win streak and 9 consecutive wins at home. They are hot, being led by Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Will Smith, and with outstanding rookie James Outman, they are a scary team to face.

4. Blue Jays

Unfortunately for the Blue Jays, they got stuck in the best division in baseball, but they are not letting it stop them. The Blue Jays have started this season at 24-16 and have 3 players hitting above .300 and another hitter only 20 percentage points away. This offense is talented, but their question is if the pitching can keep up. If they can stay healthy, they will be a dangerous team come postseason.

5. Orioles

Another young, talented team stuck in that crazy AL East, but this team is just fun. Led by a majority of first- or second-year players, and especially their catcher Adley Rutschman, they are young and ready to fight for their spot.

6. Padres

This offseason was extremely busy for the Padres, signing players like Xander Bogartes along with late season trades for guys like Josh Hader. These Padres had big expectations coming into the 2023 season, but have started slow. However, with the amount of talent on their team they will figure it out and end the season as a top 10 team and World Series competitor.

7. Brewers

With a talented starting pitching role with stars like Corbin Burnes, Eric Lauer, Freddy Peralta, and Wade Miley, they are hard to beat in a 7 game series and will be competitive against any team. Along with a strong bullpen led by Devin Williams and position players like Christian Yelich and Willy Adames, they are a talented team, and if they could add just one more talented hitter they will be extremely dangerous.

8. Yankees

The Yankees are the best historic team in the MLB and come into almost every season with high expectations. With reigning MVP Aaron Judge and potential Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole, they have the potential to be contenders in the MLB and continue fighting for not only a playoff spot, but a World Series Championship. Unfortunately for them, they are stuck in the best division in baseball and have to contend with 3 other teams ahead of them in these power rankings.

9. Astros

The reigning MLB World Series Champions were expected to come back and fight for a repeat, but even after retaining the majority of their team, especially their core, they have started the season cold. At only 23-19 they have been playing below expectations, but with the talent they have and how we have seen them play in past years we can’t overlook them, especially when we get to the playoffs.

10. Rangers

After a couple of huge offseason signings of the last couple of seasons like Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, and Jacob Degrom (even though he is hurt), would give this Rangers team the talent to be big time contenders. However, they were not expected to play the way they are right now. Starting the season 26-16 and being led by Adolis Garcia they have been fantastic offensively and a dangerous team to play.

MLB–Sammy’s Top 10

1. Rays

The Rays began this season 13-0 with a historical start. They still have the best record in the league. Left fielder Randy Arozarena has put on a show so far this season, alongside shortstop Wander Franco. With Arozarena, Franco, and starting pitcher Shane Maclanahan, I don’t see anytime soon they will let go of the number one spot

2. Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers started off this season a bit rocky, though just recently they have picked up the slack and come back to take the number one spot in the National League as of right now. Starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw at 35 years old seems like he isn’t slowing down a bit. Rookie James Outman is making plays both offensively and defensively. Right now, the Dodgers bullpen isn’t the best, but otherwise, they are one of the best teams in the National League, and I don’t see that changing for a while.

3. Braves

The Atlanta Braves are 26-16 and are the number-two seed in the National League. Right now Ronald Acuna Jr. is batting .348 and has 10 home runs. The braves were doing unbelievably well until they lost four straight games to the Boston Red Sox and Blue Jays because their star Pitcher Max Fried is out, and the team is having to rely on their bullpen each and every game

4. Orioles

Baltimore and their young team are putting on a show this year, having one of their best starts in a while, and I think it’s all because of Cedric Mullins and Adley Rutschman. Mullins is batting .266 and Rutschman is batting 2.85. You can’t ask for much more. The other day Cedric Mullins hit for a cycle proving his worth to the team. I think there is a chance of the Orioles declining in their win column, but not likely. The only reason I see Baltimore slowing down is because of their upcoming games against the Yankees and the Rangers.

5. Yankees

New York is loving life right now. Stars Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo are scoring endlessly, and overall carrying about the team’s offensive efforts. Though defensively we keep seeing Gerrit Cole and his 1.4 ERA pop up and help the team throughout games. Watching this team is extremely entertaining, and they will go far this year.

6. Rangers

The Texas Rangers are having a great time out on the field. Can’t ask for more from them besides getting their star pitcher Jacob DeGrom healthier. Collectively as a team, they are hitting well, fielding well. No one loves anything more than watching good old-fashioned ball playing and entertaining games, and the Rangers are doing just that.

7. Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays are doing well so far in the season, but starting pitcher Alek Manoah is 0-4 right now and has barely been throwing strikes compared to other years. Otherwise, the team is hitting and fielding well, but when Manoah plays there is no other choice than to lose.

8. Twins

The Minnesota Twins star, as of right now, Alex Kirilloff is playing like an all-star, batting .333, and hosing people down from the outfield. If Kiriloff can stay healthy, and keep playing like this, and if the rest of the team takes some notes from Kirilloff, they will go deep in the season.

9. Brewers

Milwaukee is having a good season so far. They are having big flashes in some games and some sad ones in others. Rowdy Tellez is their best batter right now by far, batting .250, and Christian Yelich is starting to slowly look like his old MVP self.

10. Diamondbacks

Arizona started the year off hot and has slowed down a bit. Though they are still in the top half of the league, and yes, it is still early, they will have to remember what they did earlier in the season if they plan on making a post-season run.
