“For this piece, I answered the question of what the master image in Schindler’s List was for me. I chose…the opening scene…the candle being lit and the Jewish prayers…in the background. I wrote this poem to signify the importance of this moment for me and the words…added line by line signifying the changes.”

One hand. One light

The Jewish Prayers in the night

Good before the bad

Not one person, but

A family, every single

One

All Jews before

the extinguisher hit with the full force of a typhoon

They were always in danger

Because of their religion

They prayed, and hoped

Hoped for safety

Yet few survived

They were always scared

They had Faith in their religion

they had to pray

they had to Survive

they did

through

hopes and prayers and Schindler

those who  wanted To help them

who wanted to be righteous

their survival was important

This image was important

the feelings felt

The saving necessary

the community

the Jews

We were saved

We survived
