On Wednesday, September 30th, over 70 Israeli High School students from Gymnasia Herzliya and Ironi Tet arrived in Los Angeles. It’s hard to believe that we, the sophomores, only met these people a week ago as we have already developed relationships that we’re sure will last forever.
The following Friday all three schools departed to Camp Alonim for a one night Shabbaton. At the retreat we bonded together, prayed together, and became one together. On our first day we only had one goal: to make one amazing Shabbat– one that we will remember for the rest of our lives. After splitting up into groups we were given our tasks to prepare for our Shabbat dinner. A few short hours later we were all sitting at a beautiful table adorned with flower arrangements and hand written blessings. It was a memorable occasion.
The next day was packed with even more bonding activities. That evening we had a meaningful Havdalah service where we held on to each other singing, listening, and trying to take in this whole experience. It was a time we’ll remember forever.
From going on a night hike and scaring one another to Israeli dancing with one another all we can say is that we are all upset that our guests, or shall I say our new best friends are leaving us today.
