Butterfly

Definition: an insect with two pairs of large wings that are covered with tiny scales, usually brightly colored, and typically held erect when at rest. Butterflies fly by day, have clubbed or dilated antennae, and usually feed on nectar.

When the sun rises slowly

Her wondrous wings begin to flutter

A blur of colors whisk through the sky

Like a splash of watercolor on paper

She dances through the azure like a firefly that you can’t catch

She breezes through nature, strong and unscathed

Her intricate designs glimmer in the light when she stands

Glowing with confidence, she is the queen of the land

She wears her antennae as a crown to show authority

So that the flowers appreciate her as she arrives

Like soldiers that obey her avidity

To feed on the nectar that keeps her alive
