9 to 5 The Musical: Opening Night Magic Takes Teamwork
Cast, Pit and Crew Working Overtime
As the lights fill the stage and the actors begin telling you their story, the focus is on them. They are the ones you go to the show to see. They are the ones you talk about after the show has ended. They’re the ones who receive the applause.
Not many people think about the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes, the people who don’t expect to be noticed. They are the ones who make the show run smoothly. They call the show, perform set shifts, cue the lights, greet the guests, take care of injuries, help with quick changes, sew teared costumes, style hair, apply makeup, and so much more.
The crew who remain backstage, in the house, in the booth, or up on the spotlight towers never have a moment to rest. They have to be on their A-game at all times because they know the cast can’t do the show without them.
The pit spend the entire show watching Mr.Stein for their cue. They play their instruments diligently, giving music to the musical. If a cast member messes up, they have to figure out where they need to come in so the show can continue without a long, awkward pause.
The moms volunteer their time to help make sure everyone in the cast has perfect hair and makeup. They go on food runs for the students, and they never hesitate to go into action when someone asks for something.
Putting on a musical is a team effort.
