Banned Books Celebration
October 9, 2015

More often than not, we take our books for granted. So, it is important to realize that reading is a basic human right that so many people out there are unable to pursue. That is why we must value our books and stand up for the right to read.
Books are a vital source of knowledge and morality, many American Classics contain important lessons for future generations about things like repression, maturity, and death. The reason why we read these classics in school is so we can learn from these stories and apply the lessons the characters learned to our own lives. Books give us new and valuable perspectives. Yet sadly, many of the books we love and take for granted like Fahrenheit 451 and The Great Gatsby are banned in certain locations across the country. To raise awareness for banned books, the 12th grade AP Literature class created a photo booth last Thursday at bonus where students could take “mugshots” with banned books.
