GREASE!

Minnie Leaman, A & E Editor

Grease is a musical set in the 1950s. It was written in 1971, about thirty years before most of us high school students were born.

So why is it so much fun?

This year’s musical theatre production of Grease was nothing less than fantastic.

The passion and sheer joy of the cast was evident throughout the production. All those late nights, Sunday rehearsals, and late assignments were worth it.

According to junior Moriah Pretsky, the set was “so colorful and accurate to the movie.” She loved “the costumes and the colors of the costumes.”

The lighting, sound and prop changes were so perfectly timed that the show flowed incredibly smoothly. Aside from a few sound issues which could not be avoided.

Oran Evenhaim, a costume assistant for the show, said it was “so fun to work on” and was a “stunning take on a classic production.”

Miller Friedman made the perfect Sandy, along with Emma Aaronson who stole the show as Rizzo. Dylan Russo gave a stunning performance as everyone’s favorite greaser, Danny Zuko.

Our very own Ms. Levine-Blonder said she “got so much joy out of seeing [her] daughter be able to do that.”

“It was so powerful to see all the hours they put in pay off so well,” she added.

The stagecraft team was able to produce such  precise props including the iconic Grease Lightning car, which was a shock for everyone to see on the dTHS stage.

Cameron Rose, who does the “greaser” hair, ‘said his best moment was “reconnecting with friends that [he] has hasn’t talked to in a while.” The show “brought everyone so close together.”

The best part of the show for Tiffany Yehuda, another costume designer, was seeing the incredible cast singing their hearts out and enjoying it. She said she “learned so much about what goes into a production from working behind the stage.”

The show was performed with such sophistication that it was easy to forget these are high school students.

But everyone can admit, seeing Mr. Dembo lying down on that restaurant counter and singing “Beauty school dropout” was the highlight of evening.

We recommend the show to the entire de Toledo community! Head to dths.org to buy your tickets, and hurry, because they’re selling out fast!
