For the first time in de Toledo history, students will experience a change in principal as someone new steps into the role. Effective July 1st, Mrs. Miriam Singer will be the new principal of de Toledo High School, taking over for Ms. Howard who will retire June 30, 2026. Mrs. Singer comes to our school with both school leadership experience and attention to student engagement.
Before our campus undergoes this change, let’s take the opportunity to get to know Mrs. Singer and welcome her to our campus and community.
Mrs. Singer started off her career as an English teacher – a subject she still enjoys teaching now. She said, “I absolutely loved being in the classroom, connecting with students and helping them become the best writers and communicators possible”
From there, she became an English department chair and new teacher support provider. She then stepped into a more administrative position when she became Director of Curriculum at Bridges Academy, a college preparatory school in Los Angeles. Mrs. Singer said, “I ran professional development and observed teachers…to help them develop reflective practices.”
Most recently, she is an assistant head of school at Oakwood school. Though she is making the switch to de Toledo after working there for only 3 years, she said, “It’s my goal to put down strong roots at de Toledo…I have six-year-old twins, and I hope to see them go to de Toledo for high school.”
As de Toledo undergoes this period of transition, there are different approaches the school is taking to make it as seamless as possible. For example, Ms. Howard will still be at school teaching a math class, so she can help Mrs. Singer with anything that comes up. Mrs. Singer said, “I’ve known Ms. Howard for a long time too, and she and I work really well together. I respect her institutional knowledge and her expertise and experience a lot.”
When asked about her upcoming principal role, she said, “I’m really excited to be a principal again because I absolutely love working directly with students, teachers, and families…[and] making learning engaging for students and making school a place that students are excited to come to everyday.”

Outside of school, Mrs. Singer enjoys baking, and her favorite color is purple. She spends time with her children and her husband, a scientist who invented the smallest lightbulb.
Mrs. Singer also added, “I’m starting July 1. I already have my de Toledo email set up and welcome students to email me at my new email address…even just to say hi.”
We look forward to having Mrs. Singer join our de Toledo community!
