The official deToledo sports preview for the first trimester

WEST HILLS – The future looks bright for the Jaguars this season in sports. Let’s take a look at the projections for this year.

Girls Tennis

The girls tennis team looks to continue their latest streak of success. Although it took a few practices to get back into the  “swing” of things, our tennis team is looking great this year. All jokes aside, the lady Jags look to be even more dominant than in past years. With such high expectations coming into the year, captain Brittney Adams revealed how she thought the team would play out this year. She said that the hard work the team puts in during practice “is evident in our victories this season.” I also asked rising star Lauren Ofman the same question, and she added that if the positivity and support that currently shows throughout the team continues, they are on pace for a great year.

Our girls tennis team looks to “serve” the rest of the league this season.

Girls Volleyball

The girls volleyball team has a lot of potential this year. Coming off victories from strong teams such as YULA, they feel confident to have a season to remember. In conversations with captain Dina Shainsky and also team member Sapir Bernshtein, I asked about how they felt this year would go, and they are both very confident and have full faith in their young team.

The Jaguars have an exciting season ahead and look to surpass the expectations.

Cross Country

Although in the midst of a rebuilding stage, the young cross country team hopes to develop into a huge threat in the cross country world. Captain Jake Crystal talked about what the team has in store for this year, and he declared that “[The Jaguars] have put in a lot of work this year and are going to do well.“ The mighty Jags are all committed to working hard and making this season among the best ever.

Football

With a clear need for leadership, many of the current seniors have stepped up to the occasion. After suffering a tough loss during the season opener, the mighty Jags answered by winning three straight games. Each game was one day after the other, and done so without letting the opponents score a single point. This leaves the Jaguars with a record of 3-1 so far. I had a conversation with last year’s team defensive player of the year and co-captain Cory Blumstein about how he thinks the rest of the year will go, and he told me that “We have momentum and are building confidence with every game.”

With a relatively young team and a solid offensive line, the Jaguar varsity football team looks to be in great shape for the upcoming year.
