Throughout a high school athlete’s career, there is one game that is the climax of all the hard work and dedication they’ve exercised: Senior Night. At de Toledo, seniors are appreciated and highlighted with a ceremony, framed jerseys, flowers, and social media spotlights. This past fall season there have been three senior nights for each sport: volleyball, flag football and tennis.
The Volleyball Senior Night spotlighted Shelby L. (’27) (Libero), Nomi M. (’27) (Setter), and Hannah S. (’27) (Defensive Specialist). The varsity team faced Milken, playing with a team of energized players and a crowd of excited fans. de Toledo beat Milken in a nail-biter five set match, having an unlikely comeback in the fifth set after a 7 point serving run by senior Nomi M. Following the victory, the team had dinner with their families celebrating the completion of the seniors’ careers playing on the varsity volleyball team.
The Tennis Senior Night spotlighted Hannah T. (’27) and Cora L. (’27). The team had a competitive match, but brought energy and determination to the court for their final home match of the season. With teammates and families cheering them on, de Toledo secured an 11-7 victory, giving the seniors a memorable way to celebrate their time on the team. The win highlighted not only the players’ athletic abilities but also the dedication and teamwork they had developed throughout their high school careers.
The Flag Football senior night spotlighted Simon L. (’27), Zach K. (’27), Zach B. (’27), Henry K. (’27), Griffin S. (’27), Sam W. (’27), and Eitan S. (’27). They played Providence High School and won in an exciting game. Surrounded by their teammates, families, and fans, the seniors were recognized for their contributions to the Varsity team and the effort they put into representing de Toledo throughout the season.
Across all three sports, senior night served as a meaningful reminder that high school athletics are about more than wins and losses; they are about the relationships and commitment that make being part of a team so special.
