Study a Foreign Language or Three!
Hey, and welcome back to Maddy’s Quaran- Teen column. This week we are talking about something new and exciting to lift the mood.
What are you doing right now? Probably sitting on your phone scrolling through Instagram. What if I told you that you could become a Spanish speaker or a popstar at Portuguese all in just one easy step?
Spanish, French, and Japanese–what do these all have in common? They are all Languages.
During this global pandemic, we have learned lots of things: how to make bread, how to draw, and even learning a new language.
Over these past weeks I have gone on an explorational hobby journey. Trying to find new activities to keep me busy, I finally found one that works. Currently, I am learning three new languages on Duolingo, the world’s best way to learn languages. It is rated the number one language learning website and I really enjoy it. Available to be downloaded on IOS or searched up right on your computer’s web browser, half of my free time is spent on this app in a constructive way. I have already learned so much in just a few short weeks.
I’m looking forward to when the pandemic is over and I can put my new skills to the test when I travel. Not only is it exciting to do, but learning a new language is also helpful when traveling to different places where there tends to be a language barrier.
I have been to Mexico before, and it was very hard because the language barrier was difficult and I did not know any Spanish. But now I do, so the next time I go on vacation to Mexico or France I will know common phrases and words to make the trip that much better. So many new and exciting things await me with my newly profound skills.

Thank you for the inspiration to get back on Duo-lingo to brush-up on my sparse Spanish, Italian and French conversation skills. Covid will end someday and we will travel again!
